On Saturday, October 2, 2010 begins a workshop From Trash to Treasure held by the BlumenDerry organisation.
Funded by the Derry City Council Grant Aid Programme 2010-11, the idea comes from the creative minds of two young women, Francesca and Delia, who have been living in Derry for a while and thought it would be nice to establish and run a useful and interesting project for the community they live in. The organisation they started, the BlumenDerry, has a precise goal: combining environmental issues and art, in order to sensitize public awareness of them and improve the quality of everybody's life.
From Trash to Treasure is meant for kids from 7 to 12, teaching them the "art of recycling", how to find a new use for old and abandoned things, stimulating their creativity and giving them tools to make their future lives more sustainable.
The project is divided in 10 sections, dealing with 5 different materials: paper, clothes, plastic, glass and aluminum - all materials that are still good to make something with and have lots of fun.
October is the paper and clothes month. Considering the coming celebration for Halloween, recycling old items will be useful for creating masks and customs for the occasion. As facilitator, Francesca Pagliaro will help conducting the workshop classes.
Give yourself a chance to acquire new skills for making art simply by recycling!
